Rules

Round 4, roommates.—Works have to revolve, however loosely, around this theme.

  1. All works must centre EXO Minseok and Kyungsoo's relationship, regardless of its nature or status. Platonic works and OT+ pairings welcome as long as the focus is on xiusoo!

  2. Themed rounds: work must fit the theme. If unsure, please ask.

  3. Writers: No minimum word count, no maximum word count. Writers submit their works to the round's AO3 collection and stay anonymous until reveals. Submitted works are required to be new, stand-alones, and completed; oneshots and chaptered fics are both allowed.

  4. Artists post their works on their own twitter account according to an agreed upon schedule. The fest will not repost artists' works at any given point.

  5. You may create as many works as you'd like. A second etc. work may be created after the first work was submitted.

  6. Participants under the age of 18 must not submit nsfw or otherwise explicit content!

  7. Sensitive topics must be tagged or warned for in the notes, even if considered spoilers. Missing tags/warnings will be pointed out upon submission. If unsure how/what to tag, please talk to us and we will walk you through needed and suggested tags. List of content warnings for reference here.

  8. Fics are to be rated G/T/M/E according to AO3 ratings.

  9. No works containing rape/noncon/dubcon, pedophilia, underage sex, incest, bestiality, cannibalism or Wu Yifan will be accepted. No Harry Potter AUs. (Dubcon: case by case basis, please talk to us about it.)

  10. Plagiarism or art theft, including AI-generated submissions, will result in an instant, permanent ban.

  11. A twitter account is required for participation. All communication happens via DMs.

  12. Extensions (3 days) are granted automatically if you miss the deadline; we might DM to check in with you. Should we not hear from you within those three days, we will assume you dropped out. Further extensions are possible, please DM! Notify us should you have to drop out (no reason needed).

FAQ

(Not applicable to current round.
Q: Can I post an extended version of my work later on?
A: Of course! As soon as a round is over, you can expand your fic however you want. Make sure to let us know so we can post about it!
Q: My word count is more than 3k, what now?
A: As long as it's still in the range of 3001 to 3099 words, we won't say anything! Everything exceeding that will have to be trimmed down.)
Q: Can I ask for an extension?
A: Yes, anytime! Just let us know by when you'll be able to submit your work. Several extensions are possible, too. The last day of postings is also the final deadline.
Q: What happens if I forget about the deadline? Or don't ask for an extension?
A: As long as you don't actively drop out, we'll assume you'll submit your work soon. Automatic extensions will kick in as soon as the deadline for submissions has passed. If we don't hear from you, we might DM you with the new deadline. If we still don't hear from you once the automatic extension passed, you will be marked as dropped out. (You will not be banned from future rounds, we understand that life gets in the way sometimes.)
Q: I had to drop out but still want to finish writing my fic, can I? Will you post about it?
A: Yes and yes!! You can add your fic to the respective round's collection (no matter how long after the round is over). We'll make a fic graphic for you and add it to the respective round's thread. Please note that fest rules still apply!
Q: Can I submit a work anonymously?
A: You can! Please let us know in the sign-up form (just include a note that you want to stay anonymous). Please be aware that a twitter account is needed to sign up, and mods will see your AO3 account so it is not 100% anonymous, but your participation will be confidential.
Q: Do I have to submit a prompt to sign up? Do I have to claim a prompt or can I self-prompt?
A: You can self-prompt! The majority of our submissions are self-prompts. That's the standard mode, so you neither have to submit nor claim a prompt to participate. (It's just a neat option we're offering so readers can send in prompts too or writers can share surplus ideas.)
Q: Can I submit prompts anonymously?
A: Prompts are semi-anonymous on AO3, however you need an AO3 account to submit prompts. Alternatively, please DM us your prompt and we will submit it for you.
Q: How do I claim/drop a prompt on AO3?
A: One claim per prompt, so please do not claim prompts that are already claimed! To claim a prompt, click on the "Claim" button on the prompt you want, then sign up for the fest via the Google form. Claims without a sign-up and no way to contact you will be deleted after ~36 hours. You can drop a claim just as easily by navigating to "Claims" on your AO3 dashboard (on the bottom left) and pressing "Drop prompt"; you can now claim a different prompt or write your own idea. Note that dropping a prompt on here does not equal dropping out of the fest! To do so, please DM on twitter.
Q: Can one of the mods beta my fic?
A: Probably! It depends on our personal capacities, your fic's theme, how early/late you're submitting your fic, and what you're looking for in a beta—please DM so we can figure the details out.

Prompt adoptions

All unclaimed prompts from previous rounds are up for adoption via our AO3 prompt archive.
Please note that all fest rules (except for the word count limit) still apply!
Writers claim prompts via AO3, a guide can be found here. Fanartists: please dm on Twitter for details!Process
Once the claim is fulfilled and the fic is submitted to our collection, your fic will be unrevealed and not show up in the tag or under your works. Please save the link so you can edit it if needed. Please also submit your fic to the respective round's collection!
We receive an e-mail whenever a fic is added. We will approve and unreveal the fic within a week, depending on the word count.Anything above 10k might take us longer—but we will reach out to you via Twitter right away with an estimate, so please make sure to have a link to your account in your fic or profile.(Should the fic not be approved and revealed and you haven't heard from us within three weeks, we're probably inactive. Please remove it from the collection!)Other things we will reach out to you about: missing tags/warnings (sensitive topics, as per fest rules) or other fest rule violations.Once we've approved the fic to the collection and revealed it, it will be added to the respective thread on twitter along with a graphic. Please remember to update your posting date! Thank you!!BACK

About

What's not to love about xiusoo? Quiet but packing a punch, sweet but strict, very domestic, so much duality... when xiusoo maintained their rare pair status even after their episode on Minseok's Heart4U, Jon had enough of too little content and started xiusoo4u as his first fest in November 2021.We not only want to encourage more content for them but also bring xiusoo fans together. Our rounds tend to be small but cosy—very much like xiusoo!Whenever xiusoo4u goes on hiatus, you can find us over at Shine On, the EXO rare pair flash fest that is our sibling project. The fest is currently run by...Jon (listography)

Confirmation

Thank you for signing up! Here's the process for round 4, roommates:Deadline: March 15 (UTC-12)Important note:
Given there's no word count limit this round, and depending on how close to the deadline a fic is submitted, we might only have time to skim read it. Please take extra care with tags and warnings, thank you!
Extensions/dropping out:
Automatic extensions are in place until March 17. Should you need longer than that, please DM and let us know by when you can finish your fic! Or if you have to drop out, no questions asked.
WRITERS

  1. Once you're done with your submission, please add the following line to the author's notes at the beginning of your fic: Written for xiusoo4u, round 4: roommates. Note: If you changed your prompt, there's no need to alert us, we'll roll with what you're submitting!

  2. Submit your fic to the AO3 collection. Since this collection is a prompt meme, you can either fill your prompt claim—or add your fic to the collection while posting it.

If you've claimed a prompt via AO3, you can either post it via "Claims" in the menu on the left (press the "Fulfill" button on the respective prompt) and it will automatically be added to the collection and marked as a fill for the prompt, or add the collection manually to your new work and tick the box saying "Fulfill a claim" under "Associations".

If you have not claimed a prompt, you can find the option to add a work to the collection as you're posting your work. Scroll down to "Associations", then "Post to collections". Simply type in the fest name or theme here, AO3 should auto-complete it. Make sure to select round 4! (Should autocomplete not work, you can paste this into the box: xiusoo4u_round04_roommates, then hit enter.)

  1. No need to alert us! We will receive an e-mail as soon as you submitted your fic. We'll DM you once we approved the fic to the collection (depending on its length: usually within 36 hours).

  2. As soon as we worked out the posting schedule, we'll let you know the date and time of when your fic will be posted. Please note that this tends to be at rather short notice, though we try to let you know about a day in advance!

  3. On the day of posting: Change the publication date so it will show up at the top of the EXO tag on AO3! (You can either do that shortly before it's posted or anytime after. This option can also be found as you edit your fic, under "associations". Then tick the box next to "set a different publication date" and change the date to the current day.
Note: AO3 unfortunately does not allow for fics to be "scheduled" by selecting a date in the future.)

How to find your fic after submitting it: Before your work is accepted into the collection, your fic will not show up in the regular works overview! You can either access it by bookmarking the work link after submitting it—or find it by navigating to "Collections", then "Manage Collection Items" and "Awaiting Collection Approval".As soon as your work has been approved, and until it is revealed, you can find it under "My Works", then navigate to "Works in Collections".
